Negeri Sembilan father-son team wins MR.TOY’s Remote Control Car Tournament
In the end, it took intense concentration, resilience and nerves of steel for father-son duo Imran Mohamed and Adam Darwisy to emerge champions in MR.TOY’s Remote Control Car Tournament held recently in Kuala Lumpur.
The duo defeated 10 other teams from across the country in a tense two-hour race to claim the championship, with a time of 1 minute 14 seconds in the first round, 1 minute 25 seconds in the second round, and just 1 minute 2 seconds in the final round. Teams from Johor and Perak came in second and third respectively.
The national-level tournament aims to bring families together, promote teamwork, and showcase remote control car racing skills. Open to children and their parents, the tournament features an exciting two-lap relay race for two-player teams - one adult and one child. Each team member races one lap, focusing on speed, strategy, and cooperation, with the fastest team from each state advancing to the Grand Final.
As champions, Imran and Adam, who were representing Negeri Sembilan, took home RM3,000 in cash vouchers and a trophy.
Expressing their excitement at the win, Imran said, “Winning this tournament was an incredible experience for us. We went through a rollercoaster of emotions - we were incredibly nervous in the first two rounds, especially when there was limited visibility when the car was under the bridge. But we regained our focus and confidence in the final round. A big thank you to our families for their support and to MR.TOY for organising such an exciting event!”
This national-level game tournament offered attractive prizes worth up to RM10,000, including MR.TOY cash vouchers, trophies, and medals.
The first runners-up, father-son duo Ng Chee Ek and Ng Kay Le from Johor, took home RM2,000 in cash vouchers and a trophy, while Perak’s father-son team Mohamad Khairul Faiz and Mohammad Haqaish emerged 2nd runners-up, with RM1,000 in cash vouchers and a trophy.
There were also consolation prizes worth RM500 in cash vouchers for the eight other teams from the other states.
Commenting on the tournament held at MR.DIY PLUS, IPC Shopping Centre, Selangor, MR.DIY Group’s Head of Marketing, Alex Goh, said, “This is MR.TOY’s first-ever game tournament. We were very encouraged by the response - the tournament attracted over 740 entries within just two days of it being announced. It is also heartwarming to see how this initiative brought families from diverse backgrounds together. The success of the tournament clearly demonstrates that MR.TOY is more than just a toy store. Stage One of the tournament was held between 14 and 15 December 2024 at 20 selected MR.TOY stores nationwide, attracting a total of 742 participants. The Grand Finals took place at MR.DIY PLUS IPC Shopping Centre, Damansara, Selangor, on 28 December 2024.
